For even the Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve...
Mark 10:45
We have numerous ways available for members (and often non-members) to serve in the ministries of our church. These areas of service come in different shapes and sizes, formal and informal. Generally speaking, most opportunities for service fall into three categories: in-reach, outreach, and support.
Inreach ministries are exactly what they sounds like, but it is not only those who preach and teach our Sunday school classes who are serving in this capacity. We also have several additional weekly facilitated Bible studies that are led by (somewhat) ordinary people. Those who serve in the kitchen or with our children's ministry during our children's events are also serving in an inreach ministry. At this time, you need to be a member in good standing and approved by the congregation of LVBC to teach.
Our outreach ministries are headed up by our missions committee. We typically have four significant events each year(e.g. Easter egg hunt, May Day in the Park) to reach out to the community, meet needs, love, and most importantly, share the good news of Jesus with those in our community. These events represent a great opportunity to serve the ministry of the church. Many regular attenders (non-members) are also involved in these ministries.
Members and non-members may find opportunities to serve in support ministries. These opportunities for service are often below-the-radar. Our finance committee makes sure that we are good stewards of the resources that God has blessed us with, so that our finances don't become a distraction to ministry. Our audio/visual team manages the worship service so that we can leverage the benefits of technology without the distractions of technology.

Use your unique gifts to help build the Kingdom.
"Just as we each have many members in one body, and all of the members do not have the same function, so we who are many are one body in Christ, and members of one another. Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly. If prophecy, according to the measure of his faith; if service, in his serving; or he who teaches, in his teaching; or he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence, he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness."

How do I get plugged in to serve?
We have many ways in which believers can serve in our church. The easiest way to find out where you can serve and where you are most needed is to speak with individual ministry leaders. We also have a form available here to express your interest in serving.
On the other hand, if you have an idea of a ministry opportunity that we are not currently taking advantage of and would like explore the possibilities further, please let us know. You can either talk to one of the pastors directly or complete the volunteer form and provide your ministry idea in the blank provided. Do not be surprised if, having recommended a ministry, you are asked to develop and lead that ministry team!
